Mattie Goes to Market

Hello! Mama Hen and I went outside yesterday (we had a snow day off of school) to take some pictures.

We called this photoshoot "Mattie goes to Market" because my skirt and blouse reminded Mama Hen of some of the bohemian/gypsy things she had seen people wearing at the farmer's market.

Don't be fooled by the green! It was freezing cold and there was still snow on the ground.

Mama Hen says I look very grown-up in this picture. :}

If you're curious, I'm wearing Emma's light blue shirt (from her "Hipster-ish" photo shoot) and a skirt Mama Hen made especially for me. :) She wants to adapt the shirt pattern so it will fit me better, though. Would any of you be interested in seeing them in our Etsy shop?

Have a nice evening! :)

Award: You're a Great Photographer

Hi everyone! We had a snow day today and I'm going to go take pictures before it melts, but first I want to share this with you.

Maddie from DollsOnMyMind nominated me for the "You're a Great Photographer" award! Thank you so much Maddie! :)

Rules:

1. Nominate 3-7 blogs for this award and make a link to the blog.
2. If you are nominated, give 1 of your photography tips and answer the questions given.
3. Go comment on a post of the person you nominated letting them know they were nominated.
4. Copy the picture above on your post.
5. Link your post back to the original post.
6. Add the picture to your tool bar or page.
7. Copy these rules onto your post.
8. Have fun!

Okay, I'm going to start with the photography tip. :)

If your dolls seem like their heads are really big and funny looking in your pictures, try stepping back and zooming in, especially if you're using a phone camera! This happens because of distortion, when one part of your doll (like the head) is closer to the camera than another part (like the feet). I used to have this problem before my mum showed me how to fix it. :)

Now, Allons-y to the questions!

1. What camera do you use?

I use a Nikon D3000 (with a 55-200mm lens). It's a fantastic camera, and because it's older it was fairly cheap on a used camera site. The different manual and preset options are incredibly useful.  I've hear great things about the Cannon T3is though, and now I kind of want to try one. :)

2. Which of your dolls is the most photogenic?

I'd have to say it's a tie between Emma, Felicity, and Matilda. They all bring something different to their pictures. :)

3. Do you like indoor or outdoor photography better?

Outdoor! My house doesn't have any great places for indoor photography, and it's a bit of a struggle to find somewhere to put a light box. Still, the nook where I put my doll furniture has some okay lighting. :)

4. Which season is your favourite to take photos of your dolls?

Hmm...it's another tie between autumn and summer. Spring around here is mostly muddy and blah, but summer is beautiful and warm. :) I like autumn because there is really good bokeh when the sun is shining through the red leaves.

I nominate...

Leah of ToDOLLY Awesome
Shelby-Grace of Oh My Dollies
Sissy of Luv of Dolls
Elly of Doll Stars
Olivia of AG Geeks

Questions...

1. Which do you like better, taking pictures indoors or outdoors?
2. What is your favourite outfit (and doll) to take pictures of?
3. What camera do you use?
4. Is there a (doll or human) photographer who inspires you?

Again, thank you Mattie for nominating me! :)

I should have some snow pics of Mattie up in a bit...

Snowflakes {a Photoshoot}

We got our first snowfall of the year the other day! It was less than an inch, but it was enough to make of some beautiful pictures. Enjoy!

A Sewing Question

Random picture of beautiful miss Mattie :)

Hi gals! I have a quick question for all of you who sew and craft. Where do you get all of your doll fabrics? I want to sew with things other than cotton and fleece, but JoAnns and Hancock don't have many good knits, tulles, twill, specialty fabrics, etc. I've got some old (clean) hand-me-down clothes that I use but I'm looking for more options...

Thanks for helping! :)

Hipster-ish: A Photo Shoot

Hello one and all! Mama Hen here. Our January is so far cold, windy and unfortunately snow-less. It was almost warm today. Emma and I went out this afternoon to get rid of our boredom and the following photo-shoot just kind of...happened. Enjoy!
